THE SALT FLAT OF PERU

The best of both worlds in one place... just a few meters from the sea is this beautiful place popularly known as SALAR DE ZORRITOS. It has been formed by the evaporation of seawater and is located very close to the city of TALARA in the Piura region, 1,100 kilometers north of Lima.

This tourist attraction is emerging as one of the most appealing destinations in northern Peru. This fascinating salt flat combines unique landscapes, biodiversity, and an unparalleled experience for nature lovers and those seeking adventure. The salt flat is notable for its whitish plains that reflect sunlight, creating a visual effect similar to other large salt flats around the world.

This natural site is characterized by a thin white layer covering the entire landscape. This salt flat formed gradually over many years through the action of the tides and the sun, which evaporates the water, leaving only salt particles on the surface. At first glance, it resembles a white carpet resting on the sand and soil, and it is so consistent that one can walk easily on the salt layer.

The Zorritos salt flat is a public space managed by the regional government of Piura, which has been managing this tourist site and its entry is free for all visitors, whether Peruvian or foreign. The only recommendation is to respect the rules of conduct such as: not leaving trash, damaging the place or committing improper acts.

If you are interested in visiting this incredible place, you must first arrive in Piura and from there travel to Talara (115 kilometers) by bus, a 2-hour journey. From there you must travel to Negritos (11 kilometers), which takes only 20 minutes by public transport. On the way, you must get off at Playa San Pablo and there take a moto-taxi (local transport) or walk for about 10 minutes.
