WILLOC, THE TOWN THAT SURVIVED THE PASSAGE OF TIME

Imagen
There are places in the world that, despite the passage of time, have changed little or almost not at all, places that have managed to survive the test of time…defying the norms of this modern world. I recently decided to revisit this magical little town . I had visited it before the pandemic and only saw its touristy side, the one where tourists are greeted with flower necklaces and the locals tell you about their traditions and explain their ancestral techniques for making their fine textiles —all very beautiful indeed. But this time I wanted a different trip, a more personal, more genuine experience.             Getting to this town isn't too complicated. Once you're in Cusco , simply take any transport to the charming town of Ollantaytambo . From there, you'll catch one of the minivans that depart every hour from near the market. The journey takes app...

A GOTHIC CITY IN THE ANDES?

Imagen
Local people tell several legends, the most well-known being that in time immemorial, a battle took place here between the gods and humans. They say the battle was bloody and immense, and when the god Wiracocha realized what was happening, he became very angry and punished them by turning them all to stone. From that time on, these warriors remained as stones to this day. Aside from the legend and the mystery, one can see figures of crows, children, dancers, parrots , vicuñas , an owl , and other figures, as well as the classic structures of cathedrals, palaces, and houses, with an architectural style that is not typical of Peru .           The easiest way to reach this unique stone forest is to take a flight from Lima to Juliaca . The flight takes approximately 1.5 hours. From there, you'll need to transfer to the Juliaca bus terminal and travel by either private or public transport to the district of Macusani (209 km). This jo...

THE ENIGMATIC TINAJANI CANYON

Imagen
When we talk about Puno , the first thing that immediately comes to mind is its majestic Lake Titicaca and its picturesque floating islands , but in this region of the high plateau located in southern Peru there is another somewhat unknown place that was hidden for a long time called the TINAJANI CANYON which has a special magic.           This is the perfect place for travelers who enjoy discovering stunning natural landscapes . In the more than 200 hectares that this unique area encompasses, we can find imposing and gigantic sculptures of whimsical shapes made of sandstone , hence the characteristic reddish color that distinguishes them from the rest of the landscape.         This unique landscape is crossed by the Pacobamba River , which, like a haven of crystal-clear and tranquil waters, flows silently at the edge of these stone giants that, like mute witnesses, lie petrified by the passage of time; without a doub...
