PALLAY PUNCHU, THE NEW RAINBOW MOUNTAIN

When everyone thought that in Peru there were only 2 colorful mountains of singular beauty like the popular VINCUNCA and the no less beautiful and famous PALCOYO, now another mountain has been discovered for tourism, perhaps more imposing and where for now tourists can reach the same mountain and climb it from where they can take some spectacular photos of the Andean landscape, this incredible mountain is called PALLAY PUNCHU.

This beautiful mountain is located in the Layo district of the province of Cañas, 189 kilometers south of Cusco (approximately 4.30 hours). Upon reaching our destination, we hike approximately 10 kilometers up the mountain, amidst incredible landscapes and challenging the 4,700-meter altitude. Pallay Punchu is located just a few meters from the beautiful Langui lagoon, one of the many beautiful Andean lagoons whose deep blue waters give the landscape a special touch.

In the Quechua language the name Pallay Punchu means EMBROIDERED or WOVEN PONCHO since at first glance it seems that the mountain has the shape, colors and intricate designs of a traditional Andean poncho and is part of the Apu Taqllo Apacheta mountain,

The colors that can be seen are red, whitish, fuchsia and yellowish. The trek to Pallay Punchu consists of a beautiful experience where we will walk in virgin nature, surrounded by enormous mountains until we reach the rainbow mountain, which we can climb to the top and finally take a break on the shore of the beautiful Langui lagoon before returning to Cusco.

Although it is preferable to use a travel agency, you can also take public transportation to the city of Sicuani. The trip takes approximately 3 hours and costs 20 soles (approximately 6 dollars). In Sicuani, you must take another public transportation to the town of Layo. The trip is 50 kilometers long and costs 10 soles or 3 dollars. Once in the town of Layo, our 10-kilometer trek begins, which, on average, takes 3 hours depending on your physical condition.
