THE SPECTACULAR PACAYA SAMIRIA NATURE RESERVE

  

 The PACAYA SAMIRIA National Reserve is the heart of one of the most amazing ecosystems on the planet: THE FLOODED FORESTS OF THE AMAZON PLAIN, an aquatic world governed by rivers, lakes, islands and creeks where plants and animals have developed incredible adaptations to survive amidst the mysterious black waters that clearly reflect the exuberance of the Amazon jungle, a place known as THE JUNGLE OF MIRRORS.

Esta enorme y hermosa reserva se encuentra en la región LORETO tiene una extencion de 2¨080,000 hectáreas, casi 21,000 kilómetros cuadrados de los cuales mas de la mitad es selva virgen, de hecho es la reserva natural mas extensa del Perú, representa el 1.5% del territorio peruano y es algo mas grande que Eslovenia, fue declarada como reserva natural por el estado peruano el 25 de febrero de 1,972

 Among the achievements since this immense reserve was converted into a national park are: the generation of information on wild flora and fauna; the development of methodologies for amphibian recovery that have subsequently been replicated in other areas and parks in Peru; the significant recovery of native and hydrobiological species; the promotion of the conservation and sustainable management of palm trees and plant ivory; and the involvement of the local population in the sustainable management of the nature reserve's resources for their sustainable economic use.

  

 As in the entire Amazon jungle, the climate is very hot with 2 very well-defined seasons during the year, "the dry season" that runs from May to October, is known as the Amazonian summer, here the temperature usually exceeds 40 ° C and the other is the growing season or "rainy season" from November to April known as the Amazonian winter with temperatures from 22 ° C to 35 ° C, so it is suggested to visit this reserve between May and December.

  

 The two large rivers that run through this reserve are the PACAYA and the SAMIRIA, which give their name to this spectacular natural paradise. There are also nearly 80 lakes. In this area, the presence of 1,025 species of vertebrates has been reported, representing 27% of the native species of Peru.

  

This aquatic world of rivers, lakes and virgin forests is home to a unique biodiversity consisting of: 1,025 species of vertebrates, 269 species of continental fish, 965 species of wild plants, 102 species of mammals, 58 species of amphibians, 59 species of cultivated plants, 69 species of reptiles and 527 species of birds. 

  

 Currently the PACAYA SAMIRIA reserve has 6 areas for tourist use such as NAUTA CAÑO, YANAYACU PUCATE, TIBILO PASTOCOCHA which are the closest to the city of IQUITOS, it is not possible to enter this reserve on your own, it is necessary to use the services of a travel agency, the minimum time to visit this reserve is 3 days for those who do not have time and 8 days for those looking to stay longer and get to know all the attractions of this incredible natural paradise.
