THE HUANCAYA WATERFALLS
Famous for their natural beauty, the HUANCAYA waterfalls are a gift for the eyes and the senses. This beautiful and little-known place is located within the NOR YAUYOS COCHAS landscape reserve at 3,500 meters above sea level in the province of Yauyos, in the heart of the Lima mountain range.
If you are looking for a place to relax and recharge your batteries and enjoy nature, you only have to leave Lima and travel 234 kilometers towards the mountains of Lima (approximately 7 hours) until you reach the province of Yauyos, some of the options are: take the "turismo maximino" bis, the ticket costs 70 soles, you can also contact them and buy tickets by WhatsApp, another option is the "turismo rocha" buses that for 40 soles will take you to the town of Magdalena de Yauyos, from there you will only be 1 hour from HUANCAYA which you can do by taking a taxi that can cost 30 soles.
Once you arrive in Huancaya, you must go to the main square where there is an information office where you must also pay 10 soles to enter. Here they will also give you all the necessary information to make your stay pleasant. Thanks to tourism, Huancaya now has good hotels and restaurants that allow travelers to spend the night and rest around this beautiful place.
But there are not only beautiful waterfalls in this place, but also other attractions such as the colonial bridges, the "Cabracancha" suspension bridge, the Pariacaca snow-capped mountain, and a hike through the Papacocha or Huallhua lagoons, and finally, a boat ride near the waterfalls.
Without a doubt, this place itself is very relaxing, where all you hear is the sound of the water and nature. The local cuisine highlights dishes based on trout, which is the most abundant species in this river and its lagoons.
