HUAYHUASH, THE GOLDEN MOUNTAIN OF PERU

Considered one of the most beautiful trekking routes in the world, the HUAYHUASH mountain range is an imposing and fascinating place with landscapes of extraordinary beauty that seem otherworldly. After the CORDILLERA BLANCA, it is the second highest mountain range in Peru and one of the highest in the world, with seven snow-capped peaks over 6,000 meters above sea level. The name of this mountain range derives from a weasel that lives in the Andes.

If we want to go on our own, the first thing we have to do is travel from Lima to Huaraz (402 kilometers). It is advisable to stay at least one day in this city located at 3,100 meters above sea level to acclimatize to the altitude, since during the trek to Huayhuash we will remain for 6 to 8 days at more than 4,000 meters above sea level. After acclimatizing in Huaraz, we will continue by public transport to the town of LLAMAC located 145 kilometers from Huaraz (approximately 5 hours of travel) on a dirt road.

In LLAMAC, you can hire a local guide, as the trail is challenging. Tourists who booked a tour through travel agencies arrive on this route. This mountain range covers 30 square kilometers. Due to its altitude and complex geography, it poses a challenge for visitors, as the entire trek requires enduring extreme temperatures and walking at an average altitude of 4,300 meters each day. However, this difficult accessibility makes this route very attractive to elite mountaineers from around the world who come to Peru to climb these incredible and spectacular snow-capped mountains.

In this spectacular tour we will be able to appreciate the imposing YERUPAJA snow-capped mountain, which is considered the second highest mountain in Peru with its 6,634 meters of height, it is one of the highest in the world. This snow-capped mountain is accompanied by other giant snow-capped mountains such as: Siula, Sarapo, Yerupaja chico, Jirishanca and Rashac snow-capped mountains, all of which rise to more than 6,000 meters above sea level.

Without a doubt, this trekking route seems like an enchanted place due to its unique beauty. For thousands of years, ancient civilizations have worshipped these mountains, where the Gods dwelt. Along with the snow-capped mountains, dozens of small glacial lagoons of singular beauty accompany our journey. For beginners with little experience who are keen to take on this circuit, there are 4-day treks, but for experienced mountaineers, there are 8-day treks and even a 12-day trek that takes you to every corner of this incredible mountain range where the snow-capped peaks seem to be made of gold.
