EL ÑURO BEACH, THE TURTLE PARADISE
At 23 kilometers south of the famous Máncora beach lies the incredible Playa El Ñuro, a paradise for turtles. Today, it is the ideal tourist destination for swimming and snorkeling with friendly sea turtles. El Ñuro is a small fishing village dedicated to artisanal fishing, with only 1,000 inhabitants.
The beach has a small fishing pier where tourists arrive to board small boats or dive into the beautiful turquoise sea with warm waters, home to playful turtles, who approach the area with friendly curiosity where the tourists swim.
El Ñuro Beach is home primarily to green sea turtles (chelonia mydas), which have found a safe haven here. Fishermen protect them, as do scientific organizations dedicated to protecting marine wildlife. These turtles are known to migrate long distances, even across oceans, to return to their original habitat to lay their eggs, thus ensuring the survival of the species. It is said that they use the Earth's magnetic field to navigate the open sea, thousands of kilograms from the coast.
Green sea turtles live approximately 80 years, measure 1.2 meters, and can weigh more than 200 kilograms. A turtle's shell not only serves as protection but also functions as a growth ring, recording its life cycle, with each layer representing a year of each turtle's life.
This picturesque beach is located 1,167 kilometers north of Lima, in this piece of the Peruvian Caribbean where the climate is dry semi-tropical and the annual temperature reaches 26 ° C making it a tourist destination that can be visited all year round, in this part of Peru the temperature in winter can drop to 17 ° C and in summer the temperature rises to 40 ° C.
Not far from this beach is PUNTA FARALLON, where there is another beach famous for surfers called LOS ORGANOS, which has not very large waves and is suitable for amateur and experienced surfers. The place is ideal for those who love water sports.
